The purpose for which this church was formed is as follows: The worship of God and Religious Faith in the teaching of the Old and New Testament according to the Augsburg Confession and the Tenets and Faith of the Lutheran Church.

History: The Apostolic Lutheran Church, organized in 1921 and the Articles of Association and By Laws were Certified on January 19, 19 22 by the Michigan Department of State under the Name of Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church of Covington, MI. Services were held in homes and then in a school house on the corner of Salli and Korpi Road. In 1926 the school and the property it was on was purchased and remodeled into a church.

Early services were only once a month but with better transportation they were held every Sunday with special services during the week. Early preachers included Evert Maatala, Andrew Michalson and Richard Barney and others mostly from the Copper Country Churches. On Oct. 29, 1982 a certificate of Amendment to the Articles of Incorporation with the Michigan Department of Commerce was filed to change the legal name of this congregation to the Apostolic Lutheran Church of Watton; Watton, Baraga County of Michigan.

Services now are every Sunday, Communion on the first Sunday with Sunday School and Bible study at 10:00 a.m. Worship Service at 11:00 a.m. Second, Third and Fifth Sundays are at the same time. The Fourth Sunday, Sunday School meets at 1:00 p.m. and Worship Service at 2:00 p.m.

Current: Officers of the Church are:

Robert Godell, Chairman/ President 906-355-2200; Jim Allen, Vice-Chairman 906-355-2135 and Sally Allen, Treasurer 906-355-2135.
